Mayanei HaYeshua Medical Center gives you the option to choose natural childbirth.
Natural childbirth is when the mother is an active partner in the management of her labor and delivery. Women eligible for natural childbirth are those with low risk pregnancies – where the pregnancy has passed uneventfully, with no problems foreseen for the birth.
Nonetheless, natural childbirth will proceed just so long as no problem arises, which could pose a risk to the mother or fetus, or at a later stage to the baby. The midwife is on hand to supervise, detect problems, and if the need arises, avail herself of the hospital's services.
On your arrival at the natural childbirth delivery room:
• The midwife will perform a number of tests, including:
1. Blood pressure 2. Urine test 3. Thorough review of your pregnancy file 4. Fetal monitor – for a minimum of 20 minutes
• The treating physician will perform a physical examination.
Based on the above tests, if your pregnancy is judged to be low-risk, you will be given the option of a
natural childbirth.

Natural childbirth procedure
Before starting, you will be informed of the procedure, and asked to sign a form requesting natural childbirth.
• The delivery will be in a private room, in quiet surroundings, with a midwife in attendance. • The midwife or doctor will attach an IV Venflon to take a blood sample for blood count and blood group tests. • You will be attached to a monitor at hourly intervals, for 20 minutes each time. • You will not be given any medication (as per your request) apart from medication to contract the uterus after delivery. • The birth will be managed by the midwife with minimal obstetric examinations. • If there is concern for the fetus' or the mother's safety, the natural childbirth procedure will be cancelled, and you will be given a comprehensive medical treatment as dictated by your condition.
** A private midwife can be hired from the hospital staff, in accordance with hospital procedure. ** A volunteer doula can be hired from the dedicated team of the "Tamar" volunteer organization.
There is a shower adjoining the delivery room, which you can use to help alleviate your pain. In addition, you may request massage with aromatic oils. A birth ball may also be used to ease pain.
All the above is carried out with strict adherence to medical safety rules.
