• Visit and treatment is free of charge on presentation of a Kupat Holim Form 17
• Without Form 17 the charge for a visit is NIS 300.

Please bring with you relevant medical documents.

Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorders  (ADD and ADHD)
For consultation on an attention deficit disorder in children (up to the age of 12):

• You should bring the questionnaires completed by the parents and the teacher according to the attached instructions.   For children over the age of 12, these questionnaires have no relevance.
• The questionnaires can be obtained from the secretary of the clinic at tel. 03-5770535.
• You should bring a letter from the teacher in which he/she describes his/her impression of the child and the child's latest school report cards.
• You should bring any previous assessments made on the child.

Ancillary tests conducted in the Unit

• E.E.G.
• E.M.G/N.C.T (N.C.V.)
• B.E.R.A.
• V.E.P.
• S.E.P.
• T.O.V.A.
• R.N.S. (Decremental response)

E.E.G.

An E.E.G (electroencephalogram) records the brain's electrical activity by means of electrodes attached to the scalp.  The test measures the electrical activity of the cerebral cortex, the outermost layer of the brain.  It can be performed while the patient is asleep or awake, and provides information in cases of:

• Fainting
• Convulsions
• Headaches
• Sleep disorders
• Altered states of consciousness
• Suspected meningitis

There is no need to fast, and epilepsy medication must not be stopped before the test.  The hair should be shampooed well before the test, and hair spray or gel should not be used.

** The test takes about 45 minutes.

A "sleep-deprived" EEG is performed so that the patient will fall asleep quickly right at the start of the test, which increases the test's sensitivity in cases of suspected epilepsy.

E.M.G./N.C.T.

These tests are performed for a range of clinical problems resulting from neurological, muscular or neuromuscular disorders.

An EMG (electromyogram) measures electrical activity in the muscle and involves the insertion of a very thin needle into the muscle.

N.C.T. (NCV) – Nerve conduction (velocity) test

This tests the speed of electrical signals through a nerve.

Surface electrodes, emitting a very mild electrical impulse to stimulate the nerve, are placed on the skin over nerves, at various locations.

**The test takes varying amounts of time, and can last up to an hour and a half.

S.F.E.M.G. and R.N.S (Decremental response)

These tests are conducted in cases of suspected neuromuscular disease (especially myasthenia).

B.E.R.A   (Brainstem evoked-response audiometry)

This test measures the speed of electrical conduction along the auditory nerve, and the integrity of the auditory pathway from the ear to the brainstem

**The test takes about an hour.

V.E.P. (Visual evoked potential)

This test measures the speed and quality of electrical conduction along the optic nerve, from the eye to the brain.

**The test takes about an hour.

S.E.P. (Somatosensory evoked potentials)

This test checks the sensory pathways from the nerves in the arms or legs to the brain.

It is performed in the following cases:

• Suspected peripheral nerve disease
• Suspected spinal cord or spinal root disease (radiculopathy)
• Suspected sensory cortex disorders.

**The test takes about an hour and a half.

(T.O.V.A) Test of Variables of Attention

This is a computerized test of sustained attention that measures the subject's ability to sustain attention over a certain period of time.  The subject is tested sitting in front of a computer screen.  No previous computer experience is necessary.
The test is reliable for children from the age of 6, and is always performed in the morning.

**If the test result is positive it must be repeated with a test dose of Ritalin, which is given to assess the effect of the medication on the child's attention ability.
