Mayanei HaYeshua Medical Center's Postnatal Department excels in providing a high standard of equipment and comfort. The original ward has been in existence since the hospital's inception in 1990, and every day admits some 25-30 new mothers from all over the country. Following its success, and the reputation it has established over the years, the department was expanded to include an additional, "deluxe" section built in 2006, called "First Class".
The two sections of the department include spacious nursing rooms with comfortable nursing armchairs, modern milk pumps, and an area where hot and cold drinks can be prepared. A Mayanei HaYeshua lactation consultant visits the department regularly and gives group and personal guidance to women who are interested. In addition, specially trained volunteer and staff, nursing counselors are on hand.
The department is part of the Maternity Wing, under the direction of Dr. Benny Chen and Dr. Linda Harel.

Rooming in
The new mother is helped and guided by the staff from the beginning of her pregnancy and until after the birth. Emphasis is placed on not only giving her the best treatment, but also in providing her with the tools to manage on her own. As part of the concern for her privacy and the right to be alone with her new baby, there are private VIP rooms in the ward, enabling "rooming in", where the mother can have the baby with her in her room and nurse upon demand (as opposed to the schedule of the neonatal ward). In this way the mother and baby can get to know each other before returning home.

Postnatal Discharge
It is customary to have the mother stay in the ward for 3 nights after a normal delivery and for 5 days after a c-section. In extraordinary cases the length of stay will be determined by the team of physicians in consultation with the mother. Before her discharge, medical tests are taken and recommendations given regarding follow up treatment. The mother also receives personal guidance on everything connected to the postpartum recovery period.
In the Postnatal Ward, as in all other departments of Mayanei HaYeshua Medical Center, there is scrupulous Shabbat observance and Kosher LeMehadrin food.
Medical team
The department has 23 nurses, 10 of whom are graduates, 19 qualified nurses, 4 practical nurses, 8 nursing aides, and 4 medical secretaries.
Department location
The department comprises two sections:
-
The original section is on the 5th floor, and has 23 rooms. There are 21 in-patient rooms with 3 beds, and 2 VIP rooms with 1 bed.
-
The new "First Class" section is on the 7th floor and has 14 rooms, fitted with the best equipment, including electric beds, ensuite bathrooms and showers, and personal lockers.
In addition, there is a mothers' discharge room, a newborn discharge room, a National Insurance desk, and a new self-service dining room with an area for preparing hot and cold drinks at any hour of the day. |
