Dr. Moshe Rothschild
Distinguished Roots
Dr. Moshe Rothschild, founder of the Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center, was born in Zurich, Switzerland.
A descendant of the Rothschild family and grandson of Rabbi Dr. Ernest Weil, chief rabbi of Colmar, he studied at the Talmud Torah of his native city and later at the yeshivas of Lucerne and Montreux, Switzerland.
Even in his youth, Moshe wanted to make a difference for others, and alongside his studies he volunteered with the Agudat Yisrael youth movement.
From Switzerland to Israel
After completing his studies, Moshe went on to study medicine at the University of Zurich, where he trained under Professor Guido Fanconi, director of the city’s University Children’s Hospital and one of the founders of modern pediatrics.
He continued his studies in Paris, specializing in pediatrics, before returning to Zurich to practice as a pediatrician and run an imaging institute. Even before immigrating, he had begun working from time to time at a hospital in Jerusalem. When he finally made his home in Israel, he settled in Bnei Brak, where he had the privilege of serving as personal physician to some of the generation’s leading rabbis, all while continuing to devote time to Torah study every day.
Building the future
Having grown up in Switzerland, with its highly developed medical system, Dr. Rothschild was deeply troubled that a city as large as Bnei Brak had no hospital of its own. By comparison, in his native country even towns a quarter of Bnei Brak’s size at the time had one.
Encouraged by the generation’s leading rabbis, among them the Steipler, Maran HaRav Shach, and the Baba Sali zt”l, who believed a hospital in the city would save countless lives, he resolved to build one in Bnei Brak: a hospital offering medical care of the highest standard in full accordance with halacha.
Mayanei HaYeshua strives to be a leading hospital that unites physical and mental health, guided by respect for human dignity and life.
