The General Intensive Care Unit at Mayanei Hayeshua treats critically ill and injured patients with severe, complex conditions that require close monitoring and the ability to intervene immediately.
The department’s staff includes skilled physicians and nurses, a physiotherapist, a social worker, a dietitian, and expert consultants from a range of fields.
The General Intensive Care Unit is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, allowing our staff to continuously monitor each patient’s condition.
This includes advanced ventilators; monitors that track blood pressure, pulse, blood oxygen saturation, and temperature in real time; continuous dialysis equipment; and devices for ongoing monitoring of heart and lung function.
The unit also features advanced beds and specialized mattresses designed to help prevent pressure sores.
Each patient is fitted with arterial and venous catheters, allowing medication to be administered and blood drawn without repeated needle insertions. A urinary catheter allows staff to monitor urine output, and a feeding tube delivers food and medication directly to the digestive system as needed.
Maintaining the body’s normal functioning and preventing complications from prolonged bed rest are top priorities. To reduce the risk of pressure sores, we use advanced beds and reposition patients frequently.
We encourage movement at a pace suited to each patient’s condition and ability, guided by a physiotherapist, with the goal of preserving muscle function, range of motion, and joint health.
We place strong emphasis on personal hygiene — bathing, disinfection, and daily care — which helps prevent infection and supports each patient’s comfort and wellbeing. Pain management is a core part of treatment, reflecting our commitment to the sanctity of life and to preserving every patient’s dignity.
Our staff regularly updates family members on the patient’s condition. In keeping with medical confidentiality requirements, information is shared only with immediate family members, and never over the phone.
A social worker is available to support relatives with any questions or needs that arise.
Because ICU patients are especially vulnerable to infection, we ask that visits be limited to immediate family wherever possible, with a maximum of two visitors at the bedside at one time.
Children and infants are not permitted in the unit at any time.
