An abdominal hernia is an injury to the muscular casing or the various tissues in the abdominal wall. Tere are various causes of a hernia: excessive physical exertion, increased intra-abdominal pressure, obesity, pregnancy, or a complication after previous surgeries. The formation of such a hernia causes the abdominal organs to protrude outward – sometimes in a way that isvisible from the outside. A hernia does not only cause aesthetic damage, it carries with it a risk of various complications: damage to the function of the organ due to it being trapped (such as bowel obstruction), digestive problems and infections. Some complications may be life-threatening. This is in addition to the associated pain and discomfort.
