Eating Disorders

About the clinic

An eating disorder is a mental health condition marked by a range of symptoms centred on disrupted eating patterns and a distorted sense of body image and self-worth, often accompanied by depression and anxiety. Eating disorders are among the most serious of mental health conditions, and the earlier treatment begins, the better the chances of recovery.

The FIMAL Center (named after Feige Malka Lobel) is a private medical clinic for the treatment of eating disorders, adapted to the needs of the ultra-Orthodox and religious community. It operates under the guidance of the Psychiatry Department at Mayanei Hayeshua. Treatment begins with nutritional and physical recovery and continues with emotional support, helping each patient recover from the disorder. Every patient is under psychiatric and medical supervision by a specialist in family and adolescent medicine.

The clinic’s aim is to ease patients’ suffering and improve their quality of life, while providing care that fits with their way of life. The team stays in close, ongoing contact with each patient’s family. At the same time, the Center works to raise awareness of eating disorders and the importance of early detection, both in the wider community and among educators in particular.

A multidisciplinary approach

The clinic offers a broad, varied programme of care to help each patient return to full functioning and, as smoothly as possible, to everyday life — work, family, and community. Treatment includes:

  • Supported eating – working through difficulties with eating in a guided setting
  • Parental guidance – also essential to maintaining progress over time
  • Family and couples therapy – addressing wider relationship factors and helping prevent relapse in the future
