The Advanced Mental Health Treatment (AMHT) clinic provides specialist care for patients living with severe depression (also known as major or clinical depression). Where medication — given on the inpatient ward or at the general psychiatric clinic — has not been enough, patients are referred here so the right treatment can be identified for them.
Part of the Mental Health Department at Mayanei Hayeshua, the clinic is staffed by a team of specialists led by Dr. Yoav Domani, offering particularly sensitive, compassionate care that fits with each patient’s world.
Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)
A long-established treatment, considered one of the most effective for depression. It is given as a series of short sessions under general anaesthesia. During each session, a small, carefully controlled electrical current is passed to the nervous system for a few seconds.
Ketamine
An anaesthetic with antidepressant effects, given either as a nasal spray or intravenously, alongside psychological therapy.
Magnetic stimulation
Stimulation of a specific part of the brain that is underactive in depression, using focused magnetic fields. It does not require anaesthesia and is considered effective and safe, with very few side effects.
Vagus nerve stimulation
A surgical treatment in which a small device is implanted that sends regular pulses to the brain via a nerve in the neck. Research has found it effective in easing various symptoms of depression, and in reducing suicidal thoughts.
The hospital is independent of the HMO, and members of all HMOs are accepted there.
Members of Meuhedet HMO and Maccabi are admitted to the clinic by presentation of a referral only or by payment according to the hospital's price list.
As part of the agreements also with Clalit and Leumit HMOs, Forms 17 will be given to the outpatient clinics, or a payment will be made according to the hospital's price list.
