The Cardiac Intensive Care Department, part of the Cardiology Division at Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center, treats patients with acute heart disease or complex cardiac conditions that require close medical supervision and continuous monitoring.
Patients in the department may be managing life-threatening arrhythmias, severe heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, recovery after a heart attack or resuscitation following cardiac arrest, pulmonary embolism, valve dysfunction, and more.
The department is equipped with the most advanced technology available, including monitoring devices for the immediate detection of any disturbance or change in heart rhythm, ventilators, mechanical heart support devices (IABP, Impella), and dialysis equipment for patients with concurrent kidney failure.
Department Staff
Patients in the Cardiac ICU are cared for by senior cardiologists, who oversee medical monitoring and implement a personalized treatment plan for each patient. A broad multidisciplinary team works alongside dedicated nurses trained in intensive care, including a clinical dietitian, a social worker, and a physiotherapist. This clinical and paramedical support is essential to a high-quality recovery process, addressing every aspect of care for the patient and their family.
Great care has been taken to create a calm, restful environment for patients, since rest and comfort are central to recovery. Visiting hours and the number of visitors per patient are strictly observed, to protect the safety of both patients and visitors. Social work staff are available to support family members with emotional needs or any other concerns.
When treatment in the intensive care unit concludes, the medical team will determine the next stage of care. Patients are usually transferred to the Cardiology Department or another department at the center until they are ready to be discharged home. Before discharge, patients and their families receive thorough guidance from the medical and nursing staff regarding ongoing treatment, with particular attention to necessary lifestyle, dietary, and activity changes. Patients will also be advised on follow-up check-ups and further medical testing.
