Prof. Shmuel Odes, a graduate of the University of Cape Town, South Africa,
is a specialist in gastroenterology at Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center.
He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the College of Medicine in South Africa.
He later specialized in gastroenterology and liver diseases under the Scientific Council of the Israeli Medical Association and the Israeli Ministry of Health.
He completed training in gastrointestinal physiology at the University of California, San Diego, USA.
He served as Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Unit at Soroka University Medical Center in Be’er Sheva.
He serves as a full professor at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Be’er Sheva.
In the past, he served as a specialist in gastroenterology and liver diseases at Assuta Hospital in Be’er Sheva and Yoseftal Hospital in Eilat.
He is a member of the Israeli Gastroenterology Association, the Israeli Society for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, the American Gastroenterological Association (where he was elected a Fellow), the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation, and the Convocation at the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
He has been a principal investigator in a groundbreaking Crohn’s disease study supported by the prestigious Helmsley Charitable Trust in the United States for over a decade.
